2018 Jeep Renegade Review

Overview:

Some classic retro cultures are reviving once again. They were an attraction once for a lot of folks. And again they are becoming a choice for a lot of young drivers. Well, the Jeep Renegade has stepped up with a cosmic design that is much like the old Wrangler. While the Renegade is a mini SUV.

In 2008 the Renegade concept was displayed during the North American International Auto Show. It featured a diesel engine installed within a hybrid drivetrain consisting of two electric motors. While this design only remained as a concept.

The production vehicle was unveiled during the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. And it was a lot different than the concept vehicle. While it resembled the Jeep Patriot, and it was even thought that the Renegade might replace it. But the Patriot continued for 3 more years.

Well, the Renegade is available in 6 different models. Previously there were 7 models, but the Deserthawk has been eliminated. The present range includes Sport, Upland, Latitude, Altitude, Trailhawk, and Limited. While the starting price for this car is $18,445. Further, the mid-level trims begin from $22,740 adding almost $4,300 to the price of the base model. While the finest trim level with the 4WD is available for $27,995.

There are plenty of options available for this car, ranging amid exterior enhancement, drivetrain selection and the interior upgrade. And with everything equipped, the Renegade would cost your around 30 grands.

Performance:

The Renegade is available across America, Europe, Asia, and the Oceanic markets. And accordingly, it covers the driving options for all these territories. On top of that, it is available with gasoline, diesel and ethanol drivetrains.

Well, here in North America we get the 1.4 L turbocharged 4-cylinder Fire Multiair gasoline engine. The same version is even offered in Latin America. Further, this machine can produce 160 hp of power at 152 lb-ft of torque. And it comes mated with the 6-speed manual transmission. The next we get here is the 2.4 L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine with 180 hp of power mated with the 9-speed automatic transmission. And the same version is even shared in the Latin American and the Middle Eastern markets.

While the rest of the markets get the diesel and ethanol fuel engines. Among the favorites are the 2.0 L turbocharged diesel engine available in the European and the Brazilian market with 168 hp of power pounding 267 lb-ft of torque. And the only available transmission is 9-speed automatic transmission.

For the flex fuel, the available version comes with a 1.8 L 4-cylinder engine making 130 hp of power at 136 lb-ft of torque. The 5-speed manual comes standard while the 6-speed automatic remains optional. And this model is only available for the South American market.

Well, the Renegade is available with plenty of other options for the European, Asian and the Australian market. Further, the base configuration is available with the front-wheel-drive. While the 4WD remains optional. Well, this 4WD adds more fun to the ride with its off-road abilities. But you would have to compromise on fuel mileage. The rest of the mini SUVs in its class offer more savings over fuel.

Exterior:

The Renegade revives the classic Jeep styling that remained in the business during the 70s and 80s. The styling contains round headlamps, vent grille, and a flat back. While it gets some attractive colors, the panoramic roof and the alloy wheels which is indeed the freshness of this car. Further, the cosmetics include the fog lights, spoiler, and the roof rails. Additionally, there are the exterior designing packages available for the car making it more rebound.

Interior:

The Jeep Renegade gets a very congested interior. Though front row is fine, for driving a healthy guy would certainly feel inside the car. While when you jump onto the rear row seats, you would certainly not hit your head in the roof. But you would not even have enough space to adjust your knees. Further, the seats get the cloth trim in the base models. While the leather seats are available for the top trim levels.

Features:

The entry-level Renegade gets the 5-inch touchscreen multimedia system with 6-speakers, voice commands, Bluetooth, USB ports and the Uconnect 3. The 7-inch screen for the infotainment system remains optional for the entry model but is standard for the upper trim levels. Well, this system only gets a bigger screen and the Uconnect 4. While the navigation is only available with the 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Safety:

Under the safety column, you would get 7 airbags and adjustable seatbelts. Further, you can get the lane keeping assistant, the blind spot monitoring, active braking, and forward collision and mitigation system. Some additional options include the parking assistant with rear cross object detection. And for the drivers’ convenience, the Jeep Renegade is available with rain sensing wipers and the automatic high-beam headlamps. These additional features make it a good option when it comes to long-distance traveling.

Competitors:

The Mitsubishi Outlander sits atop Jeep Renegade. Well, the Outlander gets more performing specs, sharper handling, and a decent interior. Even the exterior designing is modern and stylish. While Renegade gets closer to Outlander because of its low price. In other words, you can enjoy great features at a reasonable price.

The Renegade is a passionate ride for teens. Its retro styling is attractive for the young drivers. While the old lads would prefer something sober and more powerful.
